Sophie Dupont (Denmark 1975) is a visual artist working mainly with performance and painting. She lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Dupont received an MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and has studied Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School (The Place). The starting point for Dupont's work is most often an existential and poetic focus, mirrored in her minimalist approach and choice of materials. Recurring themes in Dupont's work are simple rituals and repetitions. Through these, she examines the contradictions and connections between object and subject, body and psyche. Her past performances have therefore been quiet poetic studies of respiration, body weight, balance and movement. "I work with performance from the idea of the possibility that a particular act directly challenge the body and mind and thus can lead to transformation and new insights via deformation and loss of physical / mental integration and balance.''
